Apologies for the very late edition of this Ten Vibes! I’ve been actually putting some effort into my life (????) at the moment and the constant construction of cover letters is really cutting my brain up! So much so that I thought ‘cutting my brain up’ was the right turn of phrase to use here.
Did you hear that people are saying that the word ‘Vibes’ is just an excuse not to articulate anything? You know what? In this newsletter’s case, they are right!!
With that being said—
Really into this outfit from Paris Fashion Week. Kind of complementary Vibes to Josh O’Connor’s Met look.
although i’m personally not entirely pro this version of the shag haircut (source) Wired headphones this! Airpods that! The Wired Headphone Discourse has made it to Big New York Media and I have mixed feelings because I’ve been here!! Fighting the ‘Wired Headphones As Cool’ fight!! Not even in a Lily Rose Depp way just a ‘they look cool airpods look bad’ way!
Citrus cakes. I should be more specific. The act of making a cake where one of the steps is to rub the zest of a citrus fruit with sugar. The smell that releases when the oils from the skin of the fruit gets combined with the sugar is maybe the best smell that exists on the planet. I would maybe even bypass the cake bit and just rub some sugar and lemon zest between your fingers and see what happens.
The album Leftovers by Le Ren.
I love how timeless this album is. I keep getting drawn to the sounds that Le Ren perfects here (crisp vocals, obvious melody, guitar forward) in other music as well— Saint Cloud is still coming through the wires, “Graceland Too” has been my P.B pick of late and Short Movie, specifically “How Can I”, is also going on repeat.
I wanted to point out a favourite song but as I listen more and more each song feels so separate from the album but so intertwined that I can’t. I love that every lyric feels like it’s been sung by someone else before, all “I wonder where I start and where you end” and “Well it ain’t love that I’m look for/But I could use someone to hold”.
Having said that I keep getting drawn to the sounds of Leftovers, I would like to contradict myself!! I’ve also been listening to the new Wet album, Letter Blue, which is all obvious vocal distortion and fake drums and synths and strange little noises and very Of The Current Aesthetic Moment. It’s also presented with a very OTCAM album cover, in the colours and the fisheye-esque photography which, while not usually my ideal Vibe, really fits the album’s sounds.
I would say a very good entry point is either the Perfect Pop Song “Clementine” or either of the two music videos released directed by Gia Coppola— “Bound (with Blood Orange)” and “Larabar”
Lamps. I’ve never really been a Lamp Person but more and more I see myself becoming one when I no longer just have one room to dress. I think I’ve just been thoroughly Influenced by Tyler Watamanuk’s recent pieces on the interiors of Keith McNally and the Flowerpot lampshade or it could be the Instagram account Nora Ephron Interiors which is very Lamp Forward and has often espoused the virtues of the Kitchen Lamp which, in my now considered opinion, is maybe the best spot for a lamp. I have decided though, that I’m not really pro Floor Lamp.
Some of my favourite lamps I’ve seen recently—
a retro blue anglepoise. i’ve been into the anglepoise ones as desk lamps (i mean obviously) but as i don’t have a desk atm i probably cannot justify owning one (source) 
i kind of love the idea of one of these bby setago lamps by jaime hayon in the corner of a kitchen (source) 
this raw light w/ pleated shade by workaday handmade. it’s a terracotta lampshade made to look pleated which fulfils my hard/soft platonic ideal. could be a tiny bit shorter though imo (source) That bit in “Fake Empire” by The National where it goes “Turn the light out, say goodnight/No thinking for a little while/Let's not try to figure out everything at once” I just think it’s very good advice!

very thin pages + blocks of text did not bode well when i tried to start this mid-august :) I didn’t want to go full 2021 Me Cliche and talk about Succession but here we are, three episodes in, and I just have a question for anyone who is trying to argue that any character other than Roman is the most compelling character on Succession— what is wrong with you!!

It is tricky talking about the Succession characters because I don’t want to say any of them are ‘my favourite’ because they are all terrible people so I’ve decided on ‘compelling’ because I just want to watch Roman!! I don’t like him but I think he’s gotten a lot more interesting in even these past three episodes of season 3 than maybe any of the others in or outside the Roy family.
I’ve been anti-Kendall-heads from the beginning and those who go on about Greg (sidenote I had a dream a couple of weeks ago where I was attempting to convince people that Nicholas Braun was Not Hot!!) have to realise that Greg is best when his character acts as the cherry on top, not when he’s carrying scenes. Sure I, personally, have some time for Connor and Tom but it’s always Romey Time in this house!
I am anti-Halloween for a myriad of reasons but this is one of very few good things to come out of it—
You know we’re Buscemi-hive over here and though I mostly find the use of the ‘How do you do fellow kids’ screenshot annoying, I think this is a very good way that a celebrity can exhibit self-awareness. I also only think it works because he doesn’t have any public social media presence so it doesn’t seem like he’s pandering to a viral moment.
The only other funny costume I saw was this one—
I have often said (I made one joke to myself in my notes app like 3 months ago) that my version of a jumpscare is the ‘last free article’ message on an article I did not care about!
